I've noticed that a higher than average percentage of my flist (and by extension, the interweb as a whole) suffers from at least one chronic disease.

One of my doctors and I have been discussing this phenomenon, and so I would like to pick your brains. Also, if you are so inclined, please feel free to pimp to people who might be interested.

This is an informal survey, just for my own information. IP logging is off, and anon comments are on, if that makes you feel more comfortable. Please note that in my examples, I just chose the disorders that I personally suffer from or that I could think of off the top of my head. If you would like, you can enter in your particular diagnosis. If I missed something embarrassingly obvious, just add it in the 'Other' category. (And WOW did I spell emphysema wrong! ::wince::)

In no particular order, do you suffer from any of the following diseases/disorders/syndromes/etc?:

[Poll #777259]

I personally suffer from a wide variety of ailments, some of which don't particularly bother me, and some that have a serious impact on my life.

Endocrine: Type II diabetes, hypothyroidism, PCOS
Pulmonary: asthma, seasonal allergies
Neurological: migraines
Gastroenterological: IBS, cholecystitis
Cardiac: MVP, high blood pressure
Psychological: depression

Yeah, I got nothin'. But I am interested in the results. The summer before I started med school, I worked in a lab that was investigating a very rare genetic disorder. (No, you've never heard of it, no one has, it's called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva.) Anyway, the flareups in this disease we had reason to believe were immunologically initiated. By which I mean you could and probably did have flareups regardless of anything you could do, but it seemed quite clear that they very often happened after illness or trauma--which made us believe that when the immune system got kicked into high gear, it set things off.

Because of this, I spent some time doing research regarding immunological dysfunction. A lot of people are interested in the idea that having one immune disorder predisposes to having others (which is probably just what your doctor friend told you--?). So even though this may be your classic anecdotal/nonscientific survey, I will be very interested in the results. *g*

Okay, I do have allergies but they're controlled by OTC meds so I didn't put it down. I'm feeling very, very lucky, especially with my weight and the fact that a lot of the above runs in my family. Another good reason to get thin. *sigh*

I have MVP and SVT (supraventricular tachycardia). I had corrective surgrey for the SVT when I was 16. I haven't had another "episode" since then, though I have felt it try to kick start a couple of times.

Last stress echo turned out ok, though the heart loop that I wore for a month did pick up on abnormal beats related to SVT and overactive electrical nodes.
