mean girls vs. cult of nice

I have several thoughts here, but in order to sum up:
AGAIN, I REPEAT: YOU ARE NOT A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE.
If you put your work out there, expect commentary on it. If this makes you uncomfortable, which is understandable, please do not post it online. Email it to your friends, whatever, but do not post publicly, because none of us wants to hear you complain when someone doesn't appreciate your masterpiece.
Period. The end.
I have several thoughts here, but in order to sum up:
- When you make your private writing public by POSTING IT ON THE INTERNET, you run the risk of having people read it.
- When people read stories, sometimes they don't like them.
- When people don't like stories, sometimes they bitch about them.
- When Laurell K. Hamilton comes out with another whopper, what do we do? FIRST, WE BITCH ABOUT IT. Then we dissect it.
- You are not any specialer a snowflake than the esteemed Ms. Hamilton.
- Ergo, if you do not feel comfortable with the idea of your work being dissected by critics, please keep it to yourself. I understand that you might be depriving the world of another truly brilliant HP epic, but that is sometimes life.
"But I wrote that fic like 4 years ago and it sucked!!!"Okay, you're right, it probably did. But the question remains, if you know it sucked, why is it still available to be read? Why haven't you either taken it down or done some massive re-editing? Have some pride in your own damn work.
AGAIN, I REPEAT: YOU ARE NOT A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE.
If you put your work out there, expect commentary on it. If this makes you uncomfortable, which is understandable, please do not post it online.
