So I came home from work one Thursday last month and found Damien panting and drooling in the corner.  I rushed him into the vet despite his protests to the contrary.  Verdict?

Broken jaw.

Cue surgeon and much gnashing of teeth.

He is now wired and pinned together, with a funnel on his head.  He is healing despite his best efforts to the contrary while being confined to a Great Dane crate in my bedroom.  Thankfully the weeks of forcefeeding him are over, he's eating on his own.  He's slightly less pitiful than he was, but he's still pretty pitiful.

And I still have no freakin' clue how he broke his jaw.  Kind thoughts directed towards a 10 year old formerly feral, extremely grumpy cat would be greatly appreciated.

They wired the bottom together, anchored it to one of his teeth, then set pins across the bottom part of his jaw. He can lick and swallow, he just isn't allowed to chew. And he didn't want to eat for weeks, so I was syringe feeding him.

This was a process that was not good for anyone.

There was hysterical crying for quite some time on my part. I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to cobble together $$ for it, which sent me into another layer of hysteria. :-(

I know a three pack a day smoker that has a little dog with the exact same smoker's cough.
