wow, she heals fast
Sep. 30th, 2002 09:56 pmI love Alias because it's a great show for women who have daddy issues. Now, of course, it's also a great show for women who have mommy issues.
My mother calls me during the commercials. No, really, we're not in high school.
L: Hello?
J: You can never say I'm a bad mother ever again. I never shot you.
L: This is yet another reason why we will never be normal.
[next commercial break]
L: Hello?
J: I swear, Sydney and Jack remind me of you and your father. They could be you! Except I'm not a KGB agent. Or thin. But they could be you! Maybe you could do that.
L: Be a spy?
J: Sure. You're mean and amoral.
Speaking of daddy issues...
I wonder what kind of advice other fathers give their daughters. My father's chief advice went along these lines:
If you're in a knife fight, you're gonna get cut. Accept that, bleed, and keep on going.
Now that I have several years in between the younger, confused me and, well, me, I realize that his advice can be taken as a metaphor for life in general. But really, all he meant was that if you're in a knife fight, you're gonna get cut. There's just not a lot of depth there.
Not that he was wrong.
