I am hearting Firefly immensely. This is sad, because I know in my gut that they are going to cancel it. I'm a sucker for westerns of any kind, and adding the "...in spaaaaaace" to it just makes me happier.

Besides, Gina Torres. In leather.

I am amazed at the good reception both CSI Miami and Birds of Prey are getting.

The faux CSI is hampered by the actors, who suck every last ounce of enjoyment from the show. It took me all of, oh, five minutes, to want to put David Caruso out of his misery. Or rather, put the rest of the cast out of their misery caused by him. I can't recall ever watching NYPD Blue, so I can't say for certain that his acting has gotten worse, but I have the sneaking suspicion that he always sucked. Besides, he always looks like he's getting anally violated. He should do something about that.

BoP suffers from bad casting, bad acting, bad writing, and bad sets. [livejournal.com profile] syzylynx and I are in agreement that the best word to describe BoP is 'bad'. Which is a shame, because the potential was enormous. I watched the first two eps, but I don't know if I can force myself to watch this week.

It's sort of funny, taken from the 'Dinah has two mommies' angle [(c) [livejournal.com profile] malisita], but as for the rest? Blergh.

I mean, c'mon, Ashley Scott and Shemar Moore were practically naked in a steam room together and they were bored. I was bored. It wasn't pretty.

(Nice try, WB, giving them male love interests to disguise their Undying!Love for each other. We see how well that worked with Xena, hmmmm?)

And is it just me or is Ashley Scott the bastard lovechild of Charisma Carpenter and Jessica Alba?

I saw a shitload of movies this weekend.

40 Days and 40 Nights: N insists on seeing every movie ever made with Josh Hartnett in it, so I was forced to suffer through it. Even Shannyn Sossamon couldn't make it better, because she was the unwashed 'quirky' girl the lead is obliged to fall for. I kept mentally willing her to wash her hair.

Le pacte des loups: I feel all important and shit, saying it in French. LOL! The Brotherhood of the Wolf, for those of us not speaking francais, is a sci-fi import. There is a Beast terrorizing the 1700s French countryside, and a man (also French) and his Native American 'blood brother' (not French, but Mark Dacascos! Hee!) are dispatched by the king to kill it. The movie was very uneven, but despite that, I enjoyed it. It had many things I enjoy -- lust, greed, perversion, etc.

*grin*

Derailed: The years have not been kind to Van Damme. And didn't Steven Segal make this movie already? Not even worth talking about.

The Scorpion King: The Rock, Live From Mesopotamia! I enjoyed both Mummy movies and I enjoyed this one, too. It's not a great piece of art, but for sheer entertainment value, it's great. There were great little pieces of humor, and I was impressed by the Rock's ability to carry it off.

And, y'know, Kelly Hu. Mrowr.
