Because my friends are relentless tv whores, I've spent the weekend watching new (to me) tv.  I watched the entire first season of Dexter, and am now working my way through the first season of Supernatural.

I mean, neither shows are Bones, but I'm enjoying them.

Dexter is SO FUCKED UP and yet it makes me laugh.  [livejournal.com profile] mercy, is there a second season?  There is also a serious mental disconnect when watching Darla as a housefrau.

Supernatural is right up my alley, what with the things that go bump in the night and all.  However, NEEDS MOAR WOMEN.  I get the draw of the double slash/incest whammy, but it is still kind of ick.

Warning: The whole women issue in SPN gets much. much. worse.

If you can kind of turn off your brain while watching, it's very pretty. If you get caught up in the OMG YOU DID NOT of it (which I did and now no longer watch) it's kind of impossible.

Right now, it's entertaining. I can totally see how the total and utter misogyny is going to piss me off, though. Women are either victims, evil, or sassy black women.

Nice going, Supernatural.

Oh the sassy black women die too.

I still haven't forgiven you for Horatio fucking Caine yet.

More women show up in SPN seasons 2 & 3 but they're not really treated well. It's really about the boys. I don't tend to ship anything on it, just enjoy the mythology they're developing.

Plus Papa Winchester is just too damn hot and makes me drool.

Besides Wincest, what is there really to ship, though? It doesn't seem like anyone else is really significant enough to ship.

I do agree, Papa Winchester is hot.

Yes, there's a second season and it is even more fucked up. Julie is so cute it is really weird. Almost as weird as seeing David from Six Feet Under having sex with women. I am also loving seeing a bunch of Oz alumni in the cast. This show just rules.

I am so glad that you like it.

I just saw her episode of Supernatural this weekend as well, where she played a God fearing woman with a brain tumor. WTF? Did Julie Benz get a gig on every single horror/sci fi show made in the last ten years?

LOL

That is probably all her agent marketing her to an audience likely to be familiar with her. *shrug*

Still, that doesn't explain her being in the new Rambo movie. *scratches head*

The second or third time I saw that commercial (the first few times I spent boggling at the fact that Sylvester Stallone had the balls to make another Rambo movie at his age), I was like, that can't be Julie Benz. But it looks like Julie Benz!

And sure enough, it was her.

I really don't know what to think of the Rambo movie. Especially, since I ended up really like the last Rocky movie, much to my own shock and horror/surprise.

Well, the bright side is that Julie is getting work. Though I am still sad when I think about no more Darla. I really grew to love her over the years. Especially, after her arch on Angel. *sad sigh*

There is indeed a second season of Dexter, and it is even more audacious than the first season. Perhaps more dramatic and theatrical, too. It strains credulity. But if you are interested in the psychological thrill of it, then I think the second season of Dexter is even better than the first, even if the finale itself was slightly underwhelming.

I really enjoy the mindfuck of finding myself empathizing with a serial killer.
