NOTE: Adult fiction of the "het" type will be accepted, but NOT slash. I repeat - NO SLASH will be accepted. Offenders will be banned at first shot. No oops, I forgot, you will be banned.

I found this in the 'welcome' notes for a fiction group.

Does this seem welcoming to you?

I realize that slash is not universally adored. I have no issue with that. I don't adore all slash myself, so why should everyone else? Nor do I subscribe to the notion that slash is inherently better written, more entertaining, more [insert adjective of choice here] than het or gen.

But the above, as a statement, seems a little too homophobic for comfort.

Is it? Or am I being overly sensitive?

Homophobic is an understatement.

Hi! Write Queer fiction? I'll shoot you! Oh, just kidding. Snerk.

Who is this bitch?

Hi! Write Queer fiction? I'll shoot you! Oh, just kidding. Snerk.

It actually reminded me of a comment I'd seen on a list somewhere a hundred years ago.

"I hate slash. It's just wrong. It's not that I don't like gay people, it's just I don't want to read about them."

Who says that? I mean, really, who says that? In a public forum! But then there's the part of me that would rather the homophobia be overt and out there rather than hidden and primed to come out when I least expect it. If you're going to hate me because I'm gay, I'd rather know about it in the first place.

I don't understand how they can't see the link between disliking fiction based on same sex relationship to disliking real life same sex relationships.

Who is this bitch?

I honestly don't even know. She's the mod for a list I stumbled upon while rummaging through Yahoo looking for Andromeda fic.

Yea. I'm with you.

Know your enemies.

One of the good things my Dad taught me. The other, unfortunately, was that most people are fucking morons.

I don't think I took either one to heart, tho, do you? *G*

Besides, this is also the guy who taught me How Not To Summon Demons in the Kitchen.
