menage a whatever
Jun. 24th, 2007 09:56 pmClearly the *in* thing right now from the ebook publishers is one woman ending up with multiple men. This can be due to several different plot devices, like the scarcity of women on the planet, brothers choosing the same woman, whatever.
I have to suspend disbelief A LOT when I read books like this. I totally understand the fantasy of more than one partner at a time. I mean, if it takes a whole bunch of 'em to get you off, more power to you.
It's one thing to enjoy a menage a whatever, but it's another thing entirely to end up with more than one permanently.
My god! One is enough of a pain in the ass. Can you imagine two or three more?
Look at your couch. Can you imagine THREE men sitting there, watching football, dirtying clothes that someone (probably you) will have to wash?
It's bad enough to have one hard-on poking you while you're trying to sleep. But three? OMGWTF.
That's not a fantasy in my book.
That is a NIGHTMARE.
It would be different if in these books everyone was involved in the relationship rather than all the men waiting around for an available female orifice. But I can count on one hand the number of stories that feature m/m in addition to m/f and m/f/m.
Do I just not get the fantasy? Is my fantasizer defective?

Date: 2007-06-25 02:35 am (UTC)There are a few that I've read, but like everything else in the fiction world, you have to comb through a lot of crap to find the good stuff.
The fact is, good m/m and f/f fic is hard to come by even in the "pro" world. *sigh*

Date: 2007-06-25 07:28 pm (UTC)It's a major bummer. The only place the problem's not quite so bad is in paranormal romance, and there, like everywhere else, there's a dearth of gay, bi, and multiple relationships.

Date: 2007-06-25 04:39 am (UTC)Cleaning the bathroom after three guys? *twitch* Hey, wait a minute, I do that now! (Jim (the husband, of course), Jeremy (the son), and Dan (the unofficially adopted son) -- and not a one of 'em can pick up his dirty boxers or scrape his hair out of the bathtub! *twitch* *shudder*)
There are times, I swear, that lesbianism appeals to me! (And this is a weird comment, going from multiple males to no males at all!)

Date: 2007-06-25 06:20 am (UTC)I had three boys, but I was only sleeping with one.
The fantasy part (I think) is that it functions and the girl DOESN'T have to clean up after three guys.
For me, the situation worked because I had a boy for all occasions.
I had one that liked to take me shopping.
I had one that cleaned stuff. (Military boys with insomnia are weird like that... Just... supervise their first encounter with a dishwasher. They may need th emotional support to get through the feeling of having been replaced...)
And I had one that liked to dress up and take me places.
It was very nice for the two years that it lasted... Then my two extra boys moved out and I found out that the one I kept was lame without the support of the other two. :-P
