I have guilt.

I have been off my 'healthy lifestyle' for about two months now. I have gained a few pounds back, but fortunately not many.

I need to start eating properly again, but I especially need to start some form of exercising. I had joined Curves last February, but after Jim and I started living together, I just stopped going.

And then we gained about fifty pounds between the two of us.

I am a non-insulin-dependant diabetic. I also have high blood pressure, asthma, and osteoarthritis, as well as a host of minor ailments. The extra weight made everything exponetially worse. My doctor had a cow, and I got the direct order to lose weight OR ELSE. I changed my eating habits, and over the course of four or five months, I lost about forty pounds.

I would be losing faster if I started exercising. Curves was ideal for me, it was low-key, low-pressure, and over fairly quickly. But since the whole thing about the founder's support of anti-abortion groups broke, I cannot in good conscience hand over my $40.00 a month to Curves.

He is absolutely entitled to his own opinions. I am absolutely entitled to refuse to fund his support of organizations that I oppose.

If you are unfamiliar with the controversy, check out Curvers for Choice.

Anyone found a Curves-like program to fill the void?

Hey you!

I was blown away when you showed me that Curves website. I think that the founder wants to push women into becoming incubators so that they'll have to lose baby weight. Bastards.

The only other options I've found around here are at Bally Total Fitness and Gold's Gym. Both of those offer "women" classes. I'm currently taking a Hip Hop dance class that's sponsored by our YMCA and I know that they also have a women's fitness program to boot.

I'd google your area and see what happens. I bet there are local dance studios that offer women's fitness as well as some privately owned gyms that cater to the female persuasion. :)

LOVE YOU!

Muffin, I know there are other women-centric gyms, I just do not know what they are. I would do what Chelle said and google it for your area. Can you make yourself do any other kind of exercise? Like even a low-impact video until you find a regular exercise routine again? I worry.

Hiya, Tink!

Are there any videos that you would rec for me?

I'm past Sweatin' To The Oldies 1-2, but I'm not quite up to Tae Bo. My knees get really, really bad pains in them. I want something low impact, but something that really works all your areas. You know? What videos, if any, have you heard good things about?

Love you!

Hey Chelleybear,

The only video I've tried myself is Tae Bo, but he's got three different levels. The package comes with three vids in it, so you can start with the beginning one. He's pretty low impact, there isn't a lot of bouncing around. For that matter, Step Reebok is low impact too, although going up and down the step might bother your knee. I haven't been to the gym in nearly a month because of surgery so it's driving me crazy. Doctor said NO AEROBICS so I can't even do vids at home. Keeping my weight down is a challenge to be sure.
